Introduction
Welcome to the Bible read-along!
Initially, I had not planned a read-along for this year, but with the start of spring, I decided to pick up reading the Bible again. The Bible has influenced many literary and genre works of fiction. It has been fundamental for some Western philosophers and their ideas. And it remains an influential book to this day. For these reasons, I always wanted to read the entire Bible, but I never got passed the first book, Genesis.
So now, I have decided to make a reading plan and go slowly through the entire book. You can join me by following my schedule below. As you may know, the Bible is not just one book but actually a collection of various books and texts. I aim to read one book per month and then reflect on it in my monthly newsletter. You can subscribe to my website to receive this monthly email. I also discuss other books that I read in there, but I will make it clear where the Bible read-along is in the newsletter. So you can easily skip other content if you want.
The aim of this read-along:
- Read the entire Bible in a slow and detailed way
- Learn about the book’s history
- Explore how the Bible has influenced other major works of literature
Note: I intend to read the Bible as a piece of literature and not as a religious text. I think there is a difference between the two ways of reading, and this is not meant as a study of the Bible in the context of faith. Furthermore, I’m not a literature or theology scholar; reading is a hobby to me. I have studied Health Sciences and (medical) Philosophy/Bioethics, so I have experience in reading academic texts and searching for secondary literature. I hope to provide you with additional articles and literature when I encounter them myself.
Edition of the Bible
I will be reading the Authorized King James Version with Apocrypha by Oxford Press (Oxford World’s Classics).

This edition is specially designed for literature students. The introduction and the notes are very helpful.
The Authorized Version (AV) includes 39 books in the Old Testament, 14 apocryphal books, and 27 books of the New Testament.
Schedule
This page will contain the schedule and the monthly book analysis links and will be frequently updated. At the beginning of April, I will provide an introduction to the Bible in the March Newsletter. The first book, Genesis, will be discussed in April’s Newsletter at the end of April/beginning of May. However, you can start the read-along whenever you want; my notes in the monthly newsletter will be added here and remain for your use. By clicking on the book title, you can go to that page and read at the convenient moment for you. I encourage you to leave a comment and start a discussion here or in the linked articles below!
In 2025, I will focus solely on the Old Testament. The first five books of the Old Testament have their own reading month. Later on, I will combine the books according to their length. The number of pages for every month will be somewhere between 70-100. In 2026, I will continue reading the Old Testament, then the Apocrypha, and lastly, the New Testament.
